Running every Sunday since 1990!

The Hyderabad Hash

What is the Hash?

Meet up with this lively, non-competitive social group for their weekly run, where a designated "Hare" sets a secretive trail—marked with flour or chalk—and the "Pack" of Hashers follows, navigating the city's streets, countryside, and sometimes challenging terrain.

Why Hash?

Our team at Hyderabad Hash House Harriers is made up of passionate and experienced individuals who are dedicated to helping you achieve your health and fitness goals. We are committed to providing you with personalized attention and support every step of the way.

History of the Hyderabad Hash

Eric 'Digit' McGaw

Eric 'Digit' McGaw is known as the founder of the Hyderabad Hash House Harriers (H4). He is a prominent figure in the international hashing community, and was notably the brainchild behind the organization of Interhash 2002 in Goa.

Hyderabad H3

The Hyderabad Hash House Harriers (H3), established by Eric 'Digit' McGaw, has been a vibrant social and fitness club in the city since its founding in 1990. Almost every Sunday, H3 members, known as "Hashers," gather to chase a trail laid by one or more designated members, the "Hares." This trail is marked using biodegradable materials like flour or chalk, and is deliberately full of false trails, checks, and splits to keep the faster runners (the "Front Running Bastards") engaged in finding the correct route, allowing the entire "pack" of runners and walkers to stay together. The run ultimately concludes with a social gathering, or "Circle," where beer and other refreshments are consumed, hash traditions like "down-downs" are observed, and camaraderie is celebrated.

What is the Hash?

The chapter, like all Hash House Harriers "kennels" worldwide, follows the tradition of "The Hares and Hounds," organizing a non-competitive, cross-country run or walk, often humorously referred to as "a drinking club with a running problem."

Who can come?

While the Hash House Harriers are famous for their welcoming nature and open doors, the Hyderabad Hash House Harriers (H3), consistent with the spirit of the international organization, emphasizes that its membership is best suited for cool and nice people who appreciate good-natured fun, fitness, and fraternity. The group actively cultivates an atmosphere of inclusivity, humor, and mutual respect, ensuring the weekly runs and post-run social "Circles" remain enjoyable for everyone. It is an environment where good sportsmanship and a friendly, laid-back attitude are valued, making it clear that a spirit of camaraderie is just as important or moreso than the running itself.
